YUGOIMPORT-SDPR IN IRAQ

1. PREVIOUS ACTIVITIES IN IRAQ

In the period from 1975 to 1990, Yugoimport-SDPR company, at that time Federal Directorate of Supply and Procurement, better known as FDSP, was very actively engaged on capital investment projects and deliveries in Iraq.

FDSP was responsible for contracting and managing of capital investment projects, while specialized operations such as designing, construction works and deliveries were subcontracted by FDSP to expert organizations from Yugoslavia and other countries, including local Iraqi companies that were also entrusted with some portions of the works and services.

Investment works were executed based on our designs that, at the Employers’ request, had to comply with British standards (BS) if they were related to buildings and infrastructure, while delivery of equipment and materials was subject to BS, AS, DIN or JUS standards, depending on the type of project and purpose of the equipment.

A number of very complex projects were executed and commissioned according to highly demanding technical requirements, their quality and reliability being greatly evaluated.

Through its operations in Iraq, FDSP gained large experience in the work organization, transport and construction works, establishing at the same time an excellent cooperation with the Employers, their specialists and local government authorities. Engaging of local companies and utilizing of local services earned FDSP valuable experience and thorough knowledge of local manpower, materials and local conditions in general.

Yugoimport-SDPR had its representative office in Baghdad that handled all the business operations with Iraqi customers and employers and whose task was to organize and supervise implementation of the projects and contracts.

2. ACTIVITIES UNDER M.O.U PROGRAMS

In the period from 1996 to 2002, Yugoimport-SDPR was involved in deliveries of humanitarian goods under MOU tenders I to XII and in some offers of capital investment projects under MOU IX to XIII. The value of effected deliveries reached about 22 million US $.

Yugoimport-SDPR submitted several offers for various projects such as Medical Centers, Railroads, Water Supply Systems and Water Treatment Plants. Yugoimport-SDPR representative office in Baghdad also provided logistic support to other Yugoslav enterprises that took part in MOU tenders.

3. RECONSTRUCTION OF IRAQ

Yugoimport-SDPR initiated the procedure for joining the activities on the reconstruction of Iraq and was granted support by relevant government authorities of Serbia and Montenegro. Moreover, Yugoimprot-SDPR was encouraged to take a leading role and coordinate the approach of domestic companies in the renewal of Iraq and delivery of goods for the needs of the Iraqi people, in addition to its regular activities. To that effect, its representative office in Baghdad has been reactivated, concurrently with intensive preparations and arrangements being made with prospective contractors and manufacturers.

By joining efforts with nominated main contractors eligible for the particular capital investment and humanitarian funds, Yugoimprot-SDPR is planning to execute works and effect deliveries, together with companies from Serbia and Montenegro, but also with Iraqi companies that should be associated to the common undertaking to the maximum possible extent.
